The Multi-Headed Beast of a Guru
How Leaders Collude for Maximum Impact and Influence in Multilevel Marketing
Merriam-Webster defines “guru” beyond the traditional religious teacher and spiritual guide in Hinduism, but also as:
a teacher and especially an intellectual guide in matters of fundamental concern
one who is an acknowledged leader or chief proponent
or a person with knowledge or expertise
When it comes to multilevel marketing, though, we don’t have ONE guru; we have a bunch. There is a reason for this, I think. The slow burn of coercion is definitely made more inconspicuous when many gurus are working together. Different archetypes (Mother, Queen Boss, Medical Professional, Spiritual Sage etc.) can be dispensed for reps to remedy various issues at a moment’s notice. Those at the tippy-top seem to be experts at framing their actions as though they are for our best interests, but it seems to me, that these actions are to protect their paycheque and the company’s bottom line.
